Has anyone used the Saab 139 ignition amplifier in place of the usual 124 version? I
recall reading here that people have used it with their megasquirt installations. But has
anyone used it with their LH2.4 systems?

I think the 139 includes dwell control while the 124 doesn't (or only includes long duration overdwell limiting). The pinout is slightly different - pin5 vs pin6 as EZK input. If the factory EZK dwell time is less than the 139 dwell time, it should shut off at the earlier EZK pulse edge and I'd think it would work OK.

I wanted to try it to see if the spark energy was a bit higher. It has a larger heat sink so I thought it may switch a bit more coil primary current.

I see. One problem with that, if it does indeed increase output, it will also typically reduce cap & rotor lifespan, in my experience with aftermarket higher energy output setups.not such a big deal with a 240, moreso with 700 and 850/V70 setups where the cost is significantly higher for those components

That bosch 03010 cap was used by many car makers it really does help keep the cost low. Beru makes a low resistance rotor which I use on the turbo but can't find one for the newer 04170 rotor. The low resistance rotor that will fit the 240 turbos and earlier kjet cars is Beru NVL145.

Could swap an earlier dist w/14mm rotor shaft into the '86+ car...

They don't last as long/develop shaft play if people don't change their oil or oil the wick compared to the '86+ dists, but if its tight it should be fine?
& 2.4 controls the timing/doesn't use the dist for any signals (cam or crank position), anyway...
