Looks good man! You're getting the boxes checked off for sure!

red calipers, because racevolvo

If you paint it, mimic a cop car, black hood and fenders, white doors and roof.

Red because black was out of stock and the re-man calipers were not rust protected.

. . . . . and because racevolvo :)

Starting on the body work/ rust mitigation. Although Im sure to recieve some hate for what I have planned for it

Haven't sanded the rear quarter yet but there was an astonishing amount of filler in the passenger door for some reason. Lats of sanding and smoothing will be required here.

The Rims - Stock 14" rims that I sanded smooth Cleaned and painted with Rustoleum Wheel paint (Gun metal/dark gray) with about 4 coats of rustoleum wheel paint clear coat.
The Front grease caps and rear axle ends got the same treatment as the rims.
The Lugs - are McGaurd 84550 Chrome lugs.
The chrome Beuty rings - are stock 14" Volvo rings i bought from a member here.
Tires are - 185/70R14 General Altimax

More to come shortly

Wish I was in this stage! This is going to be nice! :)

Did you cut the springs? Looks a bit lower in the front.

yes I did do the signature TB lowering option of two coils off the front. I need to take 1 - 1.5 off the rear until my coil over funds are available.

I mean, i haven't liked flat paint jobs since 2006, but at least it looks like it's been done correctly...

Not everyone's cup of tea, but looks like nice work man! I would recommend doing the front lip just to make everything match.

yeah, Paint is thinned out to about 50/50, very loose. Then applied about 5 coats over a few days. It looks great till about 5 ft. then you can make out the dimple effects from the paint and how it comes off the rollers. I thought about using flowetrol to get it to level a bit more but their rep didn't know how it would effect exterior paint so I used distilled water instead.

I still think it turned out great for the little time and money invested.

Yeah about that. I can't get it off. none of my sockets can get at the nut that is recessed on the bumper. I will either flat black it or body color it when I can figure out how to get it off.

Small update: Replaced the defunct CAM rack with a ZF unit. also replaced all control arm bushings with rubber and new tie rods and ball joints.
I need to call FCP though as one of the tie rods is binding when I turn the wheel or the suspension is flexed. I get a popping sound (Gotta love the life time warranty they have)

Update: So . . . . The above ZF rack from Autozone (Duralast) is/was bad right out of the gate. Puking fluid into the boots from the end seals. Autozone's suppliers can't get another one and my core is gone, whisked away to be poorly rebuilt for someone else. They (Autozone) as of last Saturday, claim to have ordered me a AC Delco reman unit from Rock Auto. But, my senses say they are playing me and I might have to get aggressive and demand a refund so I can acquire a rack from another source. Good times, love it. :grrr:

In other news! My old tail lights needed/had to be replaced. The left one had broken lenses and red duct tape for legal reasons and the right one broke away from the studs after hitting a completely avoidable and rather large pot hole and was left dangling by the power/ground wires. Rock Auto had these throw the dice URO brand tail lights for a reasonable price so I bought them.

My Bulb failure sensor decided to die slowly over the past few weeks and after 30 min of driving kill power to the passenger side parking lights. After much ground and contact cleaning, head scratching, voltage testing, and google searching I found Dave Barton's bulb relay bypass instructions. Wire jumpers were made and life is grand.

Eagle eyed viewers will note that I used a thicker wire to match the wires going in and out for the headlights. Safety first people!

I pulled out the guts of the old relay and used the case as a protective cover. you could actually go as far as to push the pins through the top case cover and make it look factory if one is so inclined. Im sorta lazy so taped the cover into place instead.

While I was looking at the new tail lights I noticed URO had the lower center spot milled out to accept a parking light bulb socket. popped one in there and lo and behold I now have 3 parking lights on each side. You're impressed I know it! :oogle:

That's it for now. Patiently waiting for the weather to warm up and a weekend where I am not running around chasing wild hairs for er with my wife to do some more things

Things to do:
- Retouch paint around windows
- Remove and paint air dam
- Buy/install lower and upper chassis braces
- Decide and buy whatever suspension I want/need. Ben's Coilovers or B&G springs with Billy hd shocks/struts
- Finally start working on rebuilding the 94 B230FT lump half torn apart in the back of my garage. More power must be had

. . . . . . . It's all about the Time and Money.

Made some lower chassis braces over the last weekend. cost me about $12 all said mostly because of parts and things on hand
Started with 1" conduit
20170325_163930_zps2iiwlapc.jpg

Cut two 18" lengths - ignore my mess
20170325_155202_zpshwxwjv7n.jpg

Crushed both ends slowly in my cheep vice
20170325_155209_zpsiu0fygqo.jpg

Then used my rubber mallet to flatten the ends flush with the ground. If you don't do this they wont bolt up right
20170325_160933_zpsugic2euq.jpg

I used a drill bit that was just larger than the bolt I intended to use. like 1/32 larger. you don't want much play with these braces since the threads are in the shear plane of the direction of force.

Painted with rustoleum - really only the cut ends need rust protection since conduit is galvanized.

20170326_095058_zpsfbrpqve3.jpg

Bolted up with grade 8 bolts- the back hole does need drilled with the same bit you used to drill the holes in the braces.

Did some more things the last few weeks. Installed the B&G springs on the rear while I wait for for my Bilstein struts for the front.

KYB gas adjusts for now on the rear.

20170614_203131_zpspuv99lfm.jpg

Also did some weight reduction and some noise increasing.
20170614_203014_zps0dtlw1h5.jpg

Removed rear muffler and ran a straight with a resonated tip sounds pretty good for now. I'll work on a sound clip.

So you thinned the paint with distilled water?

I need to paint my racecar. This is how I'm going to paint it.....

Correct, it is latex based paint so thinning it with water is the easiest way. using the HD foam rollers was the best way to keep contaminants out of the paint. I also learned that if you get a ridge that dried before you can smooth it out let it dry all the way and you can sand off the ridge with 220 sandpaper and then re-coat.
