Hello, I recently broke the rear driveshaft in my 1987 740 turbo manual wagon. I?m wondering which vehicles have driveshafts I could use as a replacement. I pulled a rear driveshaft from an N/A automatic 740 and it is too long combined with having a smaller spline count. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

There are at least three bypes of driveshafts. Small, big and inverted spline.

Not sure if the older models with different bearing support had driveshaft halves with different lenghts. And if only those cars had also small spline.

How "broke"?
The driveshaft tube is twisted like a pretzel?
One of the cast iron yokes actually broke?
One of the easily replaceable u-joints fell apart?

The IRS 7 and 9 series cars the rear half of the drive shaft is a little bit different length. I can't remember if it's longer or shorter then the solid axle cars but when I put a m47 in a 780 bertone I just swapped the front section.

Snapped a torque rod and bent the subframe. It was so bent it was hitting the rear yoke on the diff. The yoke eventually gave.

Managed to find a matching driveshaft from another 740 turbo.
